Prehospital Emergency Airway Course
The Prehospital Emergency Airway Course is a comprehensive 3 year program designed around EMS recertification cycles. The course meets the requirements for Washington State airway training as approved by your county MPD.
The first year of this course is the full day initial course
Years two and three cover pediatric and special patient populations
Initial PEAC
This one-day evidence-based course is designed for all advanced level prehospital providers who manage airways in critically ill patients.
This 8-hour course combines lecture with advanced skills and high-fidelity simulation.
Topics include:
How training and experience impact patient care
The basics of the anatomically difficult airway
Prehospital airway algorithms
Alternative and back up techniques for airway management
Video laryngoscope
Surgical airways
Bougie techniques
Use of checklists and how to increase first pass success rates
The importance of oxygenation
Airway management in the critically ill patient
Pharmacology update
Skills stations and interactive scenarios to reinforce learning
Included with this course is 3D a cricothyrotomy model.
Pediatric Airway
The pediatric PEAC builds on the initial PEAC course.
This 4-hour course covers comprehensive pediatric airway management including both anatomic and physiologic challenges. The course is half didactic and half hands on.
The didactic topics include:
Physiologic and anatomic differences
The difficult pediatric airway
Pediatric SGA
Pediatric video laryngoscopy
Needle cricothyrotomy
Foreign body airway obstruction
Pharmacology update
The second half of the course is hands on and includes:
Intubation with direct, bougie, and video laryngoscopy
Supraglottic airways and BVM
Needle tracheostomy
Foreign body removal
Scenario based learning
Special Populations
The special populations PEAC builds on the initial PEAC course.
This 4-hour course covers airway management in special populations including: trauma, obese, pregnancy, reactive airway and more.
Students will learn techniques for the following patient populations:
Trauma
Elevated ICP and neurologic emergencies
Reactive airway
Status seizure
The pregnant patient
The morbidly obese
Massively soiled airways
PEAC Instructor
Note: Instructor courses are only valid if given by The PEAC Foundation. Outside agencies may not provide instructor certifications.
This course includes a 4-hour online pre-course in addition to an 16-hour in-person course.
Instructors will be supplied with all the material needed to teach the all 4 courses including outlines, schedules, lectures (with teaching points and recording), detailed skills stations, and simulation scenarios.
This class is designed for experienced providers with a passion for airway education.

What are the requirements to become a PEAC instructor?
An active paramedic certification or EMS RN
Endorsement by your county MPD
Current WA state ESE (or plans to complete this course with in 12 months)
What does the instructor course include?
4 hours of asynchronous pre-course work
16 hours of hands-on and in-person didactic training covering the initial course, pediatric, trauma, and special patient populations courses
Practice teaching scenarios with PEAC Faculty support
All instructor materials including lecture PowerPoints with notes and teaching points for skills stations (includes 3 ALS courses and a BLS course option)
Digital instructor handbook with lecture recordings, skills videos, and exams
A hybrid course option, including interactive asynchronous didactic content, is available upon request to allow for more hands-on training time. This content can be uploaded into most LMS programs.

Who can conduct a PEAC instructor course?
The PEAC Foundation is the only organization authorized to deliver the courses. This policy was voted on by the WA State MPDs to ensure statewide consistency. Once you are a PEAC instructor you may deliver as many PEAC provider courses as you like at no additional cost.
Can my organization host a PEAC instructor course?
Yes. Our team can bring the course to your organization. Hosting requirements include:
A minimum of 16 participants and a maximum of 32
A cost of $375 per person
The PEAC Foundation provides all instructors and necessary equipment
The host agency provides a venue with one large lecture room and three additional breakout spaces
